Biden’s Steady Lead Under Fire: More Democrats Call for New Torchbearer

Another Democrat lawmaker, U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen from Colorado, has joined the growing list of voices urging President Joe Biden to step down from office. In a statement released after Biden’s recent NATO press conference, Pettersen expressed her deep admiration for the president, crediting him with inspiring her career in public service. However, she also noted that the current political climate demands new leadership.

Pettersen called on Biden to “pass the torch” to one of the many capable Democratic leaders, emphasizing the need to defeat former President Donald Trump, whom she deemed as the greatest threat to the foundation of the country. Despite her request, Biden has remained defiant in recent interviews, denying any decline in his physical or mental abilities and refusing to drop out of the race.

In addition to Pettersen, other Democrat lawmakers have called for Biden’s resignation this week, including Rep. Pat Ryan from New York and Rep. Brad Schneider from Illinois. These calls for change highlight a growing concern among Democrats about the potential consequences of maintaining the status quo in the face of a changing political landscape. As the 2024 election cycle approaches, it remains to be seen how these discussions will influence the direction of the Democratic Party and its candidates.
