U.S. Pursues Global Equality: Department of State Fights for International Gay Rights

The Biden Department of State has released its annual report detailing the U.S. government’s efforts to impose its agenda on the world regarding the rights and protections of the LGBTQI+ community. According to the report, the U.S. is actively engaged in promoting and protecting the human rights of individuals from this group globally, with a particular focus on partnering with international organizations and governments to combat discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

The Department of State emphasizes that promoting and protecting the rights of the LGBTQI+ community is a foreign policy priority for the U.S., as it contributes to stronger, more inclusive societies for all. In line with this goal, the report highlights the progress made in recent years by several nations in decriminalizing same-sex conduct, often with the support of the United States through diplomatic channels.

The report also celebrates advancements made in the realm of immigration and asylum for members of the LGBTQI+ community. For instance, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services now allow refugees and asylum seekers to choose their gender on immigration forms without the need for supporting documentation or a match with their identity document.

In addition to these advancements, the report documents how various U.S. government agencies have been investing in projects and grants aimed at supporting organizations worldwide that advocate for gender ideology, transgenderism, and combat so-called “conversion therapy” practices. The Global Equality Fund (GEF), a public-private partnership, has provided substantial support to over 100 organizations in more than 70 countries with funding totaling millions of dollars over the last five years.

The Biden administration has continued the work initiated by former President Barack Obama, who similarly harnessed the power of international U.S. agencies to promote the rights of the LGBTQI+ community globally. However, critics argue that these efforts can sometimes backfire and lead to increased hostility towards gays in certain regions, rather than fostering greater acceptance and understanding.

Despite these challenges, the report underscores the Biden administration’s commitment to advancing the rights and protections of the LGBTQI+ community on a global scale, working closely with international partners and organizations to create a more inclusive world for all.
