Orban’s Quest: Bridging East & West

Moscow Appreciates Hungarian PM’s Willingness for Dialogue with Russia and China.

The political will demonstrated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban through his visits to Russia and China has been highly valued by the Kremlin, according to a statement from Dmitry Peskov, the Russian Presidential Press Secretary. The assessment of these visits signifies an affirmative viewpoint on Orban’s willingness for dialogue with Moscow.

He [Orban] has shown his political will for dialogue,” stated Peskov in a commentary posted on Shot Telegram channel. We take it very, very positively. We believe it can be very useful.” The spokesman emphasized that the Hungarian PM’s actions are viewed as favorable by the Kremlin, which sees potential benefits stemming from this dialogue.

Recalling Orban’s upcoming visits to other countries, including Washington, Peskov indicated that he will likely share his impressions and information with colleagues within his alliance upon return. This may lead to changes in their perspectives on Russia and China. Obviously, he will further tell his colleagues in the alliance about his impressions and about the information he received in the capitals,” added Peskov. And then we will see what will change.

During his visit to Kiev and Moscow on July 2nd and 5th, Orban proposed the idea of a ceasefire and preparations for peace talks to both Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Following their meeting, Putin highlighted that Russia is not in favor of a ceasefire because it could potentially be exploited by Kiev. Instead, he emphasized the need for an outright end to the conflict in Ukraine, referring back to his earlier speech at the Russian Foreign Ministry where he outlined the necessary conditions for achieving this goal.
