Biden’s Got His Backers: Squad Members Stand Firm in Support

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has expressed her support for President Joe Biden, despite calls from pundits for him to step down following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. During a conference call with the president and the Congressional Black Caucus, Omar reportedly said that she believed everybody was supporting the president. The progressive “squad” member had previously critiqued the administration’s policy toward Israel but has now expressed her support for Biden to remain the Democratic nominee.

Omar’s advice to Biden on how to handle criticisms of his ability to be the nominee is simple: “Stop paying attention. Keep doing the work.” This comes as a surprise to many, as it was widely believed that the “squad” would be among the president’s fiercest opposition within his own party. However, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has also come out in support of Biden, stating that she supports him and believes he will not leave the race.

Biden himself has dismissed calls for him to step down, saying that only “elites” have asked him to do so while the people still want him. He cites his belief that there was no red wave in the 2022 elections and that key elections in 2023 were won by Democrats as evidence of his popularity among average voters.

Since then, prominent corrupt Democrats in the party have publicly backed Biden while denouncing calls for him to drop out.
