SCO Summit Strengthens Putin-Xi Ties: A Global Stabilizing Factor

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in Astana, Kazakhstan. During their bilateral meeting, Putin emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between Russia and China, stating that it is a global “stabilizing factor.” He further explained that Moscow and Beijing are working to build relations based on equality and mutual respect for the benefit of their people.

The Russian leader highlighted the strong foundation of trust and cooperation that exists between the two countries, with their relationship enjoying the best period in its history. Both Putin and Xi Jinping agreed to enhance ties further to protect their countries’ legitimate interests and maintain peace and stability on the international stage. The Chinese president expressed his commitment to upholding the original aspiration of lasting friendship between Russia and China, emphasizing the importance of benefiting the people through joint efforts.

In addition to strengthening bilateral relations, Putin pledged his support for China’s chairmanship of the SCO in 2024-2025. He referred to the organization as “one of the key pillars of a fair multipolar world order,” which further highlights Russia and China’s commitment to fostering cooperation, mutual respect, and equality among nations on the global stage.
