Russian Concerns Over Lack of Ukraine Negotiations; Putin Proposes New Security Architecture

MOSCOW, July 5. Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya has expressed concerns over the lack of significant attempts by Western states to begin negotiations on Ukraine. Speaking in an interview for Rossiya-24, Nebenzya believes that this situation may change as the special military operation unfolds.

We have not observed any serious attempts to begin real negotiations,” said Nebenzya. I believe that this whole situation may change and will change as the situation at the front line changes.” He explained that as the situation worsens for Western countries, there will likely be an increase in calls for negotiations, conversations, and conflict resolution or freezing efforts.

Regarding the potential election of Donald Trump as the next US president, Nebenzya does not believe this would significantly change American policy in the region. It does not really matter for us who will become the next president of the United States,” he concluded.

In June, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the collapse of the old system of the Euro-Atlantic security and proposed to build a new architecture that would account for everyone’s concerns. Additionally, Putin outlined the conditions for peace talks on Ukraine, which include the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbass and Novorossiya, Kiev’s rejection of accession to NATO, ensuring Ukraine’s neutrality, non-aligned status, and denuclearization, and lifting all Western sanctions.
