Trump Leads Enthusiasm Surge in Post-Debate Poll, Biden Campaign Under Pressure

Former President Donald Trump holds a significant lead over current President Joe Biden in terms of enthusiasm among voters, according to a USA Today/Suffolk University post-debate poll released Monday. The results indicate that Biden may face challenges motivating his base to turn out and vote in the upcoming election.

The survey, one of the first to be conducted after the debate, will likely be closely examined by Democrat operatives and donors to assess the impact on Biden’s campaign following his performance during the debate. According to the poll, Trump supporters appear more excited than Biden supporters about voting in November: 82% are excited to vote for Trump, compared to only 60% of Biden voters.

Furthermore, a breakdown of excitement levels reveals that 59% of Trump voters are “very excited” to cast their ballot, while just 29% of Biden supporters share the same level of enthusiasm. Additionally, 23% of Trump voters are “somewhat excited,” compared to 31% of Biden supporters.

The poll also found that 41% of Democrat voters would like to see Biden drop out of the 2024 race, with only 51% expressing a desire for him to remain on the ticket. Sixty-four percent of independent voters want Biden replaced on the ballot. Notably, among Democrats who viewed the debate, just 24% said their support for Biden increased as a result, while nine percent indicated that it made them more inclined to support a third-party candidate.

The USA Today/Suffolk University poll surveyed 1,000 registered voters between June 28 and 30, with a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points. Despite the findings, the Biden campaign has maintained that polling does not indicate he should drop out of the race.

Chris Korge, the finance chair of the Democratic National Committee, told donors on Monday that they should remain calm and focus on the bigger picture. Quentin Faulks, Biden’s deputy campaign manager, also emphasized on a conference call with donors that the media has overblown the situation and highlighted that Biden is likely in better health than many people his age. Co-chair Jen O’Malley Dillon further defended Biden, stating that he is probably in better health than most individuals in their positions.
