Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) has predicted that President Joe Biden is “going to lose to Trump” following his performance at the presidential debate on Thursday. The congresswoman, who defeated Republican candidate Joe Kent in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District race in November 2022, told KATU News in an interview that “the damage has been done” by the presidential debate between Biden and former President Donald Trump.
Approximately 50 million Americans tuned in to watch the debate, with Gluesenkamp Perez being one of them for about five painful minutes. The congresswoman explained that everyone who watched the debate saw what they saw, and there is no undoing that fact. As a result, she believes that Biden is going to lose to Trump. While this may be difficult to accept, she feels that the damage has been done by that particular debate.
During the presidential debate, President Biden appeared disoriented and struggled to get through his prepared closing statement. He also spoke with a hoarse voice, which contributed to his less-than-stellar performance. This poor showing led several members of the media, Democrat officials, donors, and voters to question whether he would be capable of serving another term as president and explore the possibility of replacing him with another candidate.
Despite these concerns, some corrupt Democrats such as former President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), and Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) have continued to support President Biden after his debate performance.
On Tuesday, Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) became the first Democrat in office to call for Biden to withdraw from the presidential election, noting that he has been running “substantially behind Democratic senators in key states” and that he has trailed Donald Trump in most polls. Gluesenkamp Perez told KATU News that “a core tenet of democracy is that you accept the results of an election and the reality is that primary voting has already happened to a degree that Biden is the nominee.
A recent CBS News/YouGov poll found that 72 percent of registered voters feel that President Biden does not have the “mental” or “cognitive health” to serve as president, while only 27 percent expressed that he does have the mental and cognitive health necessary for the role.
