Slim Chances for Trump’s Ukraine Resolution: Ambassador Kelin Doubts 24-hour Settlement

Former US President Donald Trump’s chances of resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine are slim, according to Russian Ambassador to London Andrey Kelin. In an interview with British broadcaster Sky News, Kelin expressed doubt that even if Trump were to win the election, he would be able to negotiate a settlement within a 24-hour period as he had stated during his previous campaign appearances.

First of all, he should become a president,” Kelin said, highlighting the first obstacle in achieving this goal. If Trump were to succeed in that endeavor, there would still be substantial effort needed to negotiate and implement a resolution. A lot of efforts should be applied to do this and that depends on what kind of terms it is going to happen,” Kelin continued.

The Russian ambassador acknowledged the progress made during negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in early 2022, which took place in Istanbul. He described these talks as a “good platform probably.” However, he warned against unrealistic expectations of an immediate resolution, stating that all parties involved, including Donald Trump, must be realistic about the current situation on the ground.

Kelin emphasized Russia’s ongoing commitment to its military actions in Ukraine, noting that the special military operation is still operational and will likely escalate in the near future. We are advancing… It’s wrong to think that there is a stalemate over the [special military operation] area, there is no freeze,” he said.

In light of these developments, it seems unlikely that Trump would be able to resolve the conflict within a 24-hour period even if he were to win the election and take office again. The situation on the ground remains complex and dynamic, requiring careful negotiation and planning to achieve a lasting resolution.
