Orban’s Ceasefire Proposal Faces Doubt: Ukraine Pursues Independent Peace Plan

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban recently proposed a temporary ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia during his surprise visit to Kiev. However, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has expressed doubts about the proposal, citing past negative experiences with ceasefires that he believes have not benefited Ukraine. Instead of a ceasefire, Ukraine is pursuing its own peace plan based on a ten-point program proposed by Zelensky, which calls for the withdrawal of Russian forces from disputed territories, reparations, and an international war crimes tribunal for Russia’s leadership. While Moscow has rejected this plan as unacceptable, it seems unlikely that a temporary ceasefire will be agreed upon anytime soon.
