Trump Leads Biden in Pennsylvania Survey: Post-Debate Analysis

Former President Donald Trump is leading current President Joe Biden in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania, according to the latest Cygnal survey released on Monday. The survey revealed that Trump has a four-point advantage over Biden, with 48 percent support compared to Biden’s 44 percent support. Eight percent remain undecided.

In a head-to-head matchup, Trump leads among swing voters, garnering 37 percent support to Biden’s 30 percent. Trump also has a significant lead among Pennsylvania independents with a 15-point advantage.

The survey included third-party candidates as well, and in that scenario, Trump leads with 42 percent support, followed by Biden at 38 percent. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received nine percent of the vote, while independent candidate Cornel West and Green Party candidate Jill Stein each garnered two percent of the vote. Six percent remain undecided.

This survey is notable as it was conducted both before and after Thursday’s presidential debate. It was fielded on June 27-28, 2024, among 800 likely voters, with a +/- 3.45 percent margin of error.

In addition to the head-to-head matchup results, the survey shared insight into the presidential debate itself, finding that “22% of debate watchers had generally negative things to say about Biden compared to only 13% for Trump (18% thought both candidates were bad).” Among persuadable voters in the presidential race who watched or followed the debate, Trump came out looking much better than Biden.

Despite the unfavorable post-debate reactions from some Democratic voters, President Joe Biden’s campaign and family have doubled down on their commitment to remain in the race. CNN reported that a Biden campaign spokesperson confirmed that the president has no plans to step down from his re-election bid, and his family members gathered at Camp David to encourage him to continue his campaign.
