Ukraine’s Path to Peace: Zelensky’s Plan for Conflict Resolution with Russia

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced that a comprehensive plan for ending the conflict with Russia would be ready by the end of this year during a press conference in Kiev following a meeting with Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar. This plan will outline all points of the Peace Formula, which includes measures such as Russia ceding all formerly Ukrainian territory and withdrawing its troops, among other things.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine must be strong on the battlefield, as Russia only respects strength. He also highlighted the importance of showing a plan to end the war with majority global support, following the diplomatic path they are working on. This comes after he signed a long-term security pact with the EU and separate aid pacts with the US and its allies, committing them to years of military and financial assistance for Ukraine.

Speaking in Brussels, Zelensky stated that Ukraine does not want to prolong the war or let it last for years. He added that a settlement plan must be put on the table within a few months without providing further details. Despite Kiev’s reluctance to share Ukrainian casualty figures, they have insisted that they have inflicted significant losses on Russian forces.

As Ukraine works towards creating a comprehensive peace plan, their partners continue to provide support in terms of military and financial aid. This commitment from the West is seen as crucial in protecting the Ukraine policy in case of a potential change in leadership in the United States, following concerns over the impact of a Donald Trump presidency on the ongoing conflict.
