Trump vs Biden: A Punch-Up Debate on the State of America’s Global Brand

The first presidential debate between Democratic candidate Joe Biden and Republican rival Donald Trump was held on Thursday night. During the debate, which was hosted by CNN, Trump tore into Biden, accusing him of wrecking the economy, triggering the migration crisis at the southern border, and “going after his political opponent.

Trump argued that Biden mishandled the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. Such policy failures damage America’s global brand, he said.

Throughout the entire world, we are no longer respected as a country,” Trump said. They don’t respect our leadership, they don’t respect the United States anymore… We’ve become like a third-world nation.

Biden defended his record as president, while insisting that Trump responded poorly to the Covid-19 pandemic and that his tax reform only “benefited the wealthy.

Biden argued that the economy collapsed under Trump’s term in office, with unemployment rising to 15. He accused Trump of leaving the country in chaos.

In response, Trump insisted that his economic policies have been successful, and that he has successfully rebuilt the economy.
