Operation in Ukraine: Conflict in Ukraine May Become Extension of Nuclear Arms Race

ISTANBUL, June 24 – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has expressed concern over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, warning that it could escalate further and potentially involve nuclear weapons. Speaking in an interview with Haberturk television channel, Fidan emphasized the high cost of the war for both the region and the world at large, adding that the risk of this conflict growing could lead to a more alarming situation.

The top Turkish diplomat revealed that he had communicated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s message concerning the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict to Russian President Vladimir Putin during their meeting in Moscow on June 11th. We informed our counterpart that peace is needed in Ukraine, and Russia must take a clear stance,” Fidan explained. Notably, two days after this exchange, Putin listed the conditions for ending the war in Ukraine, which Fidan considers a significant development.

Fidan emphasized Turkey’s commitment to diplomatically resolve the conflict since its inception in Ukraine. As long as the war continues, the risk of its expansion will remain,” he stated. He further explained that each party involved would likely resort to extreme measures to alter the course of events, which could ultimately lead to a situation where the flames of conflict spread even further.
