Mara Macie, who is vying for a position in Congress in Florida’s Fifth Congressional District against incumbent Republican Congressman John Rutherford, spoke about her journey into politics and the Declaration of Military Accountability during an interview with Breitbart News Saturday. The event was scheduled to take place at Jekyll Brewing in Jacksonville Beach, FL, shortly after Macie’s discussion.
Macie revealed that she has been interested in politics since her high school years but did not fully comprehend the importance of local politics until she became a military spouse. The constant relocations made it difficult for her to engage with political matters at a grassroots level. As a result, she realized that she had become somewhat of an uninformed voter who religiously followed federal politics without truly understanding the complexities of the system.
I didn’t realize that you don’t really know as much as you think you know, unless you actually dig into these people — where their money comes from, who they’re on the hook for, because if they’re not on the hook for the American people, they’re on the hook from somebody else and that’s generally lobbyists and PACs,” Macie explained.
As a military spouse, Macie and her husband were compelled to become deeply involved in politics when the coronavirus vaccine mandate was issued. Her husband refused to take the shot due to religious or medical reasons, like thousands of others. However, many exemptions were denied, prompting them to form alliances within the military community and work with lawyers to find ways to avoid the government-mandated vaccinations, including masks and PCR tests.
Macie’s husband ultimately became a whistleblower who exposed data from the Defense Medical Epidemiological Database and experienced retaliation for his actions. The couple found it challenging to get help or answers from their representatives during this time. They tried contacting members of the Armed Services Committee but were met with resistance, as only constituents could access the form.
They can’t recruit. They can’t retain. And it’s all because they don’t care about the people. They care about pushing a woke agenda, and that’s it,” Macie said, highlighting the challenges faced by those seeking assistance from their representatives.
The Declaration of Military Accountability, she said, “laid out a path for people in the military to hold the leadership accountable that has failed our military and caused the retention problems, the recruitment problems.
Macie explained that the signers of this declaration were committed to taking control of their leadership by holding them accountable at local and federal levels. Many of these individuals will be present at her campaign event on Saturday.
