Moscow-Hanoi ties strengthen amid EU sanctions

Russian gas giant Gazprom may be banned from using European financial systems and services due to sanctions imposed by the EU, as it is currently unable to process payments through major banks. The ban could take effect within a month if the EU agrees on the matter in the coming days.

Russia is moving away from relying on Europe for economic communication channels and instead focusing on creating alternative markets and supply routes. Russian economist Anton Sviridenko states that no significant impact should be expected from the next round of sanctions.

The Hezbollah group has threatened to attack Cyprus if it allows Israeli military forces to use its bases. Hassan Nasrallah claims to have information suggesting Israel is attempting to gain access to Cypriot air facilities for operations in Lebanon. Cyprus is an important partner for Israel, with Nicosia joining a project this year to create a maritime humanitarian corridor to the coast of Gaza Strip.
