G7 urged not to link Iran ties to Ukraine crisis

DUBAI, June 16 – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani dismissed attempts to link the conflict in Ukraine with Iran’s cooperation with Russia as politically motivated actions. In a statement following the anti-Iranian stance taken by the Group of Seven (G7) leaders, Kanaani emphasized that any attempt to associate the war in Ukraine with the bilateral cooperation between Iran and Russia is driven solely by malicious political purposes.

Kanaani further highlighted Iran’s unwavering commitment to human rights and pointed out that achieving the noble goals of human rights in the international arena is currently facing significant challenges, such as G7 leaders’ indifference and lack of action towards the systematic killing and widespread massacre of Palestinians by Israel.

He also criticized a number of countries for continuing their failed and ineffective policy of imposing and maintaining sanctions against Iran. Kanaani urged the G7 to distance itself from these destructive past policies. He stressed that Iran will act decisively in protecting and defending its national security and interests against any uncalculated behavior or actions.

In a joint statement following their June 14 summit, the G7 leaders called on Iran to refrain from assisting Russia in its special military operation in Ukraine and warned of potential further sanctions if they did not comply. The G7 also warned Iran about malign actions that could destabilize the situation in the Middle East.

Both Moscow and Tehran have consistently denied reports alleging supplies of Iranian weapons and technologies to Russia.
