RNC Launches Monitoring Mission for 2020 Elections

The Republican National Committee (RNC) launched a “Swing State Initiative” on Friday, aiming to recruit thousands of poll workers, monitors, and attorneys to serve as election integrity watchdogs in November. While the RNC claims that this initiative will help ensure vote integrity, concerns have been raised that it could lead to harassment of election workers and undermine trust in the voting process.

This move by the RNC comes as former President Donald Trump and his allies continue to spread false claims about widespread fraud in the 2020 election. Such claims are setting the stage for a potential repeat of Trump’s efforts to undermine election results, which ultimately led to the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump allies have already signaled that they might not accept the results if he loses to President Joe Biden in November.

The RNC’s plan involves deploying monitors to observe every step of the election process, while also setting up hotlines for reporting any issues observed at polling stations. The initiative will be launched across multiple battleground states, including Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia. Critics argue that the focus should instead be on providing more resources to state election boards to help discourage fraud.

Despite numerous reviews, recounts, and audits confirming Joseph R. Biden’s victory in key swing states during the 2020 election, conspiracy theories about voting and election fraud continue to persist. Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey has assured that there will not be a repeat of confrontational behavior by poll watchers and challengers this year. The RNC’s “Protect Your Vote” tour aims to educate voters on their rights and encourage them to participate in the electoral process, while also promoting election integrity across multiple states.
