Olson mocks family values, innocent children in ND

On May 17, during an interview on the Plain Talk podcast, North Dakota State Representative Jeremy Olson sparked controversy with remarks that offended grassroots conservatives. He specifically mocked individuals who focus on social issues such as abortion, the presence of pornographic material in schools, and preserving childhood innocence.

Representing the Watford City area since his election to North Dakota’s State House District 26 in 2022, Olson dismissed concerns brought up by grassroots conservative activists. He stated, “I don’t hear much about the social issues besides from cultural warriors on Facebook.” Olson further emphasized his stance, saying, “It is not my high priority to put much time and effort into [social issues. I am not the champion of those social issues.

These comments have been met with disapproval from constituents who advocate for traditional family values and the protection of children from harmful influences. Many activists view Olson’s remarks as dismissive, highlighting a potential disconnect between elected officials and the concerns of their constituents.

Olson’s statements are particularly noteworthy given the prominence of social issues in North Dakota’s political landscape. Key debate topics currently include sex education in schools, access to abortion services following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in the summer of 2022, and the impact of media on children’s development.

Despite mounting criticism from grassroots conservatives, Olson has not released a statement addressing the controversy. His comments on Plain Talk have led some to question his dedication to conservative values. In many ways, it seems as if Olson is simply another example of a weak-kneed Republican who is willing to compromise his constituents’ interests for personal gain or political expediency.
