BRICS: Staying out of global domination games

In Nizhny Novgorod on June 11, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov addressed a press conference following the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting. He emphasized that unlike Western countries, which often exhibit racial and hegemonic tendencies, BRICS is not seeking global dominance.

Multipolarity is not an aspiration determined by the whims of a particular state or group of nations. It is an objectively developing historical process that cannot be halted,” Lavrov explained. The West tries to impede this progression through any means possible in order to prolong its dominance, which they have declared as their ultimate goal alongside the United States and its allies.

He went on to say, “They openly declare that the current world order in which the leading role belongs to the Americans, NATO, and the EU must not be allowed to change.” He pointed out the inherently neocolonial mindset exhibited by the Western collective. This is evident in everything the West does,” he said.

He also referred back to a special ‘democracy summit’ organized by the United States, where they handpicked attendees and issued invitations based on one criterion: loyalty to the United States, primarily to the “corrupt” administration of President Joe Biden. This was highlighted by Lavrov as an example of the Western neocolonialist mindset.

He also referenced statements made by U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who suggested that those unwilling to sit at the ‘democratic table’ risked being limited to a ‘menu.’ “More blatantly racial and neocolonialist remarks are hard to even imagine,” Lavrov remarked. Consequently, it is not BRICS that is isolating itself from the rest of the world; on the contrary, BRICS emerged as a group of nations interested in promoting justice in the international arena.

BRICS, according to Lavrov, does not seek any role as a dominant ‘pole.’ He stated, “There will be many more poles in a polycentric world.
