Ukraine peace-building rests on EU and US election outcomes

In Budapest, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed his belief that the resolution of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine can be expected if peace-loving forces are victorious in upcoming elections to the European Parliament and the United States. Following his vote in the European Parliament elections, Orban responded to a question from a correspondent for our publication regarding when peace might come to Ukraine. The prime minister stated that achieving peace in Ukraine could be accomplished through two main steps.

Firstly, he noted that the central issue currently being debated during the European Parliament elections across all EU countries is whether or not they should pursue a path of war or peace. In November, Orban reminded reporters, the United States will hold its presidential election, marking the second step in this process. He emphasized that if the elections in Europe and the US are won by proponents of peace, then there is hope for establishing peace in Ukraine.

The Hungarian leader stressed that their immediate goal now is to win the European Parliament elections, as he had closely observed election campaigns taking place in countries such as France, Germany, and Italy. Throughout these campaigns, Orban observed that the topic of war and peace had become increasingly prominent. As a result, he stated, “This is now a pan-European issue,” and it can be interpreted that the ongoing election campaigns in European countries are essentially campaigns focused on the issues of war and peace.
