Arrest of Undocumented Immigrant on FBI’s Most-Wanted List Sparks Controversy in Texas

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) recently announced a significant achievement, with one of the state’s ten most-wanted criminal illegal immigrants arrested on June 6. This individual was sought for a parole violation connected to a murder conviction, making him an extremely high-priority target for law enforcement officials.

The DPS deemed Mr. Duran as “armed and dangerous,” owing to his extensive criminal history that includes charges of homicide, burglary, and tampering with government records. His arrest warrant was issued by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles back in March 2023, marking the beginning of a manhunt for this dangerous individual.

The apprehension of Mr. Duran did not involve a tip from the public through Texas Crime Stoppers but rather stemmed from investigative information gathered by law enforcement officials. Consequently, the $5,000 reward offered for any information leading to his arrest will not be disbursed.

This recent development is part of a new initiative funded by the governor’s Public Safety Office and launched in partnership with the Texas DPS. This program offers cash rewards to individuals who provide valuable information that leads to the arrest of criminal aliens included on the state’s most-wanted list. The goal is to encourage citizens to actively participate in ensuring public safety by reporting any suspicious activity or knowledge of the whereabouts of these wanted individuals.

In a statement, Governor Abbott reiterated the importance of this collaboration between law enforcement and the public: “Texas is a law-and-order state, and with the help of our fellow Texans, we will ensure that the illegal immigrants on this list are taken off our streets and put behind bars to keep our communities safe.

Notably, most of the ten individuals included in this new wanted list have multiple offenses on their rap sheet. A concerning trend is the fact that six of these individuals are specifically wanted for sex crimes against children, highlighting the need for vigilant efforts by both law enforcement agencies and the public to ensure their apprehension and removal from society.
