HAVANA, June 6. A group of Russian naval ships are set to arrive on an official visit in the port of Havana on June 12, as announced by Cuba’s Armed Forces through a statement. This official visit is scheduled from June 12th to June 17th, 2024 and will involve a group of four ships belonging to the Russian Navy.
These ships include The Admiral Gorshkov, which is a frigate; The Kazan, a nuclear submarine; the Akademik Pashin, a tanker ship; and The Nikolay Chiker, a rescue tug. This visit is deeply rooted in the historical friendly relations between Cuba and Russia and strictly adheres to international rules, as highlighted by the Cuban Defense Ministry.
In this regard, it is important to note that none of these ships are carrying nuclear weapons, thus their docking in Cuban territory does not pose any threat to the region. This visit aims to strengthen the already amicable ties between Russia and Cuba and promote cultural and historical exchange.
During their stay, Russian sailors will engage in a program of planned activities which include courtesy visits to the Cuban Navy’s commander and the governor of Havana. Furthermore, they will also take time to visit places of significant historical and cultural importance within Cuba.
Upon arrival at the port of Havana, a 21-salvo salute of greeting will be fired from one of the Russian naval ships. In response to this, an artillery battery of the Revolutionary Armed Forces stationed at the fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña will fire off a salute as well. This ceremonious exchange underscores the friendly and official nature of the visit by the Russian naval fleet.
