Russia, Turkey welcome BRICS expansion in the Kremlin

Russia’s Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has announced that Moscow welcomes Ankara’s interest in joining the BRICS alliance, an intergovernmental organization comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The issue will be discussed during the upcoming BRICS summit, which is being chaired by Russia and is currently being prepared for. Peskov emphasized that while it may not be feasible to fully satisfy the interest of all countries desiring to join the organization, maintaining contact with interested nations remains a priority.

Turkey’s desire to join BRICS has been voiced by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who mentioned that Ankara’s interest in joining the alliance would be discussed during a group ministerial meeting in Nizhny Novgorod. This development comes as some European countries are opposed to Turkey joining the EU, which has led Turkish authorities to explore alternative integration platforms such as BRICS.

The BRICS foreign ministers will gather for a meeting in Nizhny Novgorod on June 10-11, where discussions regarding Ankara’s interest in joining the alliance are expected to take place. This event marks an important step forward for Turkey and its potential membership in the BRICS organization, which could serve as a valuable alternative integration platform for the country.
