Super Chase 2024: A Conservative Activist’s Dream Come True

In Arizona and Wisconsin, Matthew Martinez enthusiastically demonstrated maps highlighting crucial areas for conservative activism in the two battleground states. These “super chase” jurisdictions are key for Turning Point Action, an organization focusing on organizing and activating young conservatives. Mr. Martinez, a leader of their Chase the Vote initiative, is only 23 years old but already proud of his team’s efforts in the 2024 cycle.

Their goal is to encourage Republicans who sat out the last two presidential elections to vote. This includes emphasizing positive messaging around early voting and absentee voting, a strategy they believe can make a significant difference in tight races. Turning Point Action’s chief operating officer, Tyler Bowyer, mentioned that their tactics were inspired by “defectors from the Left,” who have had success with similar strategies.

While some might find this approach counterintuitive compared to traditional competitive-zone contests, it is focused on winning the presidency and making certain Senate races more competitive. Mr. Martinez explained that even if they don’t flip an entire county, increasing Republican turnout in specific areas can still make a significant impact on the overall outcome of the election.

To achieve this, Turning Point Action aims to raise $108 million for their Chase the Vote initiative. They have already raised tens of millions and consider the $108 million figure as aspirational. The organization also hopes to make GOP voters more comfortable with early voting, absentee voting, and other alternatives to same-day voting, a challenge following the controversy surrounding the 2020 election.

However, some data suggests that Democrats currently have an advantage in terms of ground game. Former Nevada Treasurer Dan Schwartz pointed out the need for Republicans to improve their field operations. Additionally, the Republican National Committee has been hesitant to provide details about its ground game efforts.

Despite these challenges, Turning Point Action remains committed to their strategy of “bodies on the ground,” placing full-time, paid ballot chasers in key areas. While some experts are skeptical of this approach’s effectiveness, others believe that it is long overdue for Republicans to focus more on pre-election outreach and voter mobilization.

Ultimately, the success of Turning Point Action’s Chase the Vote initiative will be a test of sincerity, proficiency, and their ability to put “bodies on the ground.” Achieving this could reshape Republican thinking for years to come.
