Defense of Autocracy in Ukraine

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to maintain the narrative that the ongoing war in Ukraine, now in its third year, is about “defending democracy,” as claimed by political elites in Washington.\n\nThis is particularly evident when Secretary of State Antony Blinken visits Ukraine to deliver billions of US taxpayer dollars to fund the war and declares that Ukraine’s upcoming presidential elections are canceled until “conditions allow” (Ukraine has not held elections since 2019.

This week, he delivered this news while also attending a popular Kyiv nightclub, playing a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.”\n\nThis announcement comes just days after Russia launched an armored ground offensive in Ukraine’s northeast near its second-largest city, Kharkiv.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to push a message that the country is in desperate need of more Western aid to prevent the collapse of their war effort while also claiming that Ukraine can “win” this war by expelling all Russian forces from their territory.\n\nHowever, it seems that few people believe these claims.

Additionally, it’s widely known that Ukraine was one of the most corrupt countries in the world prior to the war beginning.

In terms of democracy, Blinken has stated that there will be no elections until “all Ukrainians” can vote – meaning, no elections even if a ceasefire or peace plan is implemented so long as Russia controls any Ukrainian territory.\n\nThis insistence on every single Ukrainian being able to vote seems suspicious.

Could it be that the current pro-Western leadership in Ukraine doesn’t want elections to take place because they fear the voters would vote their regime out of power and pursue peace negotiations with Moscow, which their Western sponsors would not support?\n\nExamining Western elites’ approach to “democracy,” it seems that protecting institutions like the CIA, FBI, IMF, and the World Bank is more important than ensuring citizens can vote for the leaders they prefer.

Could these same tactics be used in the United States to delay or suspend elections?

The events of 2020 suggest this could certainly happen.

Ultimately, it appears that the permanent regime in Washington does not genuinely want free and fair elections in Ukraine right now because the voters might interfere with their agenda – a situation eerily similar to what may one day transpire here in America.
